MPs meet Minister to discuss future of RAF Marham
30th March 2011
Keith Simpson joined other Norfolk MPs to meet Armed Forces Minister Nick Harvey MP to discuss the future of RAF Marham.
Mr Harvey told the MPs that a 2005 decision that the new Joint Strike Fighter would be based in Lossiemouth when it comes into service in 2020 was no longer valid and that the decision will not be taken until nearer the time.
He also said that the Tornadoes will remain in operation until 2025 and not 2020 as previously expected.
Speaking afterwards, Keith Simpson said the meeting was “very informative and encouraging in a subtle way”.
He also highlighted the benefits of the Norfolk MPs working together on the issue. He said they had “hunted in a pack” over Marham “as we did over the completion of the A11 dualling”.
