Norfolk MPs endorse Buy Local Norfolk campaign in letter to PM
13th June 2012
Keith Simpson joined other Norfolk's MPs in backing the Buy Local Norfolk campaign after local businesses showcased their produce today in Westminster.
At a meeting hosted by Norwich South MP Simon Wright, the county’s MPs heard more about the benefits of building local, sustainable supply chains.
Keith Simpson, Simon Wright, Brandon Lewis, Chloe Smith, Elizabeth Truss and George Freeman attended the event with around forty representatives from Norfolk. Each MP was presented with a locally produced Norfolk picnic lunchbox. The meeting was followed by a Buy Local group picnic on St James Park, made up of locally produced products.
The MPs have now signed a joint letter to the Prime Minister backing the campaign as a model to emulate elsewhere, and stating that: “as local MPs for Norfolk, we strongly endorse the economic, environmental and social benefits this cooperation brings to our county.”
Keith Simpson said:
“Buy Local is good for Norfolk and supports our small businesses that provide high quality food and drink, locally sourced that I definitely enjoy”.
Simon Wright commented:
“The event gave us an invaluable opportunity to listen to their concerns directly. The issues raised are certainly ones that Norfolk's MPs will pursue through our work in Parliament.”
All of Norfolk’s MPs are backing the campaign which makes good business sense, creates social benefits and boosts our local economy.
